This Amazon Kindle Fire was announced at a press event on September 28, 2011 and Kindle Fire is slotted to be released on November 15 2011 and preliminary reports have pre-orders at 5 million, which is definitely a boost for Amazon At the time this review was made Kindlefire already sold over 2551 units, with an average customer is very satisfied with this product.
One of the biggest draws to this tablet compared to others is the price. Amazon Kindle Fire will be sold for just $199. This is a significantly lower price than many other tablet computing systems. Amazon is able to offer such a bargain price because the device is tied into their Eco-system.
The major selling points other than the price are the capabilities that come from amazon some of which include:
- 100,000 Movies and TV Shows.
- Your Favorite Apps and Games.
- Amazon Silk capabilities, this is a cloud based.
- Amazon Whispersync technology.
- Access millions of books from the amazon library and Kindle store.
- Access Amazon MP3 store.
- PDF and document reading capabilities.
- 1 month of Amazon Prime free which gives feature like free 2 day amazon shipping and immediate access to 10000 movies and TV shows.
A lot has been made about the Kindle Fire by Amazon and some people have suggested that it will take market share from the iPad 2. While I know that there are many people who would like nothing more than to have apple dethroned (I will admit that I am one to some degree), I will be the first to admit that the Amazon Kindle Fire will not be doing this.
Amazon Kindle Fire is a completely different product and it is based around the popular Google android operating system. Android first started out as an OS for phones, but has recently graduated to run on tablet computers. So what makes the Kindle Fire different from the old Kindles? First off it has a beautiful 7 inch color display made of Gorilla glass. This insures the screen is strong and scratch resistant. In fact Gorilla glass is up to 7 times harder than normal polymers. The tablet runs on a dual-core processor that makes multitasking and switching applications a breeze.
I have said that Amazon Kindle Fire very different from the iPad. there are some disadvantages of kindlefire so little difficult to compete with the iPad, despite these weaknesses can be covered by the Amazon service.
But like most consumers as it did considering the weaknesses of a product, in my opinion kindlefire weaknesses are as follows :
- The Kindle Fire is only 7" so if it is taking market share from anyone it will the smaller tablets like the Nokia or Samsung. (It is listed at 7.5" x 4.7" x 0.45")
- At 8GB the Kindle Fire is only capable of storing limited data. (It does however come with free cloud storage for all Amazon content so that helps.)
- Battery life is not as robust with a maximum of 8 hours of continuous reading or 7.5 hours of video playback (without wireless turned on)
- It does not have cellular capabilities so it cannot be connected to a cellular network. It can however connect to wireless networks.
- Some reports are that it does not have any USB capabilities although I found the following caption on the Amazon website " USB 2.0 (micro-B connector)" which I assume means that it has some capabilities.
- A major shortcoming of the Kindle Fire is that it has no camera.
As far as how the Amazon Kindle Fire tablet stacks up against the Apple iPad 2, it is a much more economical device. If you want a device that will allow you to read ebooks, magazines and to play movies and music then this is a great device. Movies look great on the IPS display and the Amazon app store will allow you to download and play games. With the holiday season coming up, it makes a great gift and it is sure to be a hit.
